Think I've found my spot for Chinese clay pot rice. I ordered the special bacon and sausage clay pot rice (large) and it was so good! Liked that they provided (additional?) sauce on the side. This place also provided a large bowl of their complimentary soup of the day (lotus root). While waiting for my pot of rice to cook, I must have filled up on the soup because I was only able to eat half of the rice pot. However, I found myself wanting to dig in for more of the crunchy sides and bottom. Had enough leftover for another meal! Look forward to returning but will add a veggie dish next time. My wife's chow mein was not great, didn't like the texture of the noodles and the dish was too salty, wouldn't order again. Service was adequate.

I think they did a little remodel and the place looks great. Just updated and cleaner and still same great classics. This is my go-to family Chinese restaurant in the neighborhood that we go to support and that our kids like to go to when they come home from the holidays and want a nice confortable meal.

Green Island always has solid Chinese food. It tastes a lot like homemade too. I try to go here with as many people as possible so we can try a lot of dishes. They even have a 3 dish deal with rice and soup for like $38. It helps that this place is 2 blocks from my house so I go here all the time.

Cozy Cantonese restaurant. We saw staff members wrapping fresh dumplings inside. Food comes quickly and piping hot. The beef chow fun and garlic pea sprouts were great, very flavorful. Claypot rice was also good and had lots of crispy rice. Scallion ginger chicken was a bit hard to eat because it was so bony. Huge portions and very reasonable prices.

While at a friend's house, it was dinner time and we were pondering where to go for dinner. Since we were all comfortable and relaxed, our friend suggested that we take out from their favorite Chinese restaurant house nearby and enjoy at home. They had a take-out menu and suggested we picked some dishes out. They said there's a Chef's Special listing at 3 items for $34.99 and you can select from 56 different dishes. So we picked out six dishes from the Chef's Special and added another dish. We called in and the order would be ready in 20 minutes. My friend and I drove there for the order. Parking is difficult in the area, so my friend dropped me off. The order was being finalized when I arrived. The restaurant had about a dozen tables and was about half full. I waited at an empty table by the cashier. There was TV in the dining room. The last dish came out and the worker was checking off the order and realized it was a duplicated item. She apologized and had the missing item prepared. In about five minutes the dish came out. For the inconvenience, she gave the duplicated dish to me and said for me to enjoy. That was nice. Our dishes: Salt and Pepper Pork Chop Seafood Combination Clay Pot Salted Fish Chicken Tofu Clay Pot Chicken with String Beans - this was the duplicated dish, where one was given as a comp. Ma Po Tofu Rock Cod Filet with Bitter Melon Chicken Chow Mein The food is homestyle style Cantonese cuisine and the dishes were well made and tasty. My favorites were the chicken with string beans and the clay pot dishes. The worker was friendly and was apologetic about the order mix-up. No nonsense good homestyle Cantonese food here.

3.5 STARS With inflation hitting hard, I'm on the hunt for hole-in-the-wall restaurants that will fill my tummy without making my wallet cry. Green Island Restaurant.... It's so hole-in-wall that the clay pot was missing a handle and had three 4-5 inch deep cracks on the bottom. I get it, it's like not wanting to let your fav granny panties go even if there's holes in it and the waistband is busted. I also found a piece of a steel wool scrubber in the rice crust. When I can get enough food for two-plus meals along with free soup and hot tea for $15 pre-tip...I can overlook it. I had an appointment nearby and found Green Island Restaurant on Yelp for their Bo Zai Fan, Chinese Clay Pot Rice. They're open for takeout, delivery, and indoor dining. No outdoor dining. M E N U Legit Cantonese fare. Chef Specials: Choice of 3 items is now $34.99 (it was $25.99 last year). Cc's accepted. F O O D * Complimentary Winter Melon Soup w/ pork and carrots: https://bit.ly/3cK1D48 Very homey and comforting with a tender piece of pork rib and soft pieces of winter melon and a carrot. * House Special [Combo] Clay Pot Rice w/ chicken, spare ribs, cured pork belly, chinese sausage ($13): https://bit.ly/3cEPfSX ***Add egg (+$1) ***Allow 15-20 minutes to prepare. The clay pot rice was decent; rice for days compared to the toppings. You're provided with a bottle of their sweet soy to drizzle all over. The cured pork belly and chinese sausage were the best parts for a salty richness. The spare ribs were somewhat tender. The chicken was mainly bones and skin. I'm glad I added an egg...because runny egg yolk with rice with sweet soy...YUM! Upon arrival, I did a rice crust check and none had formed so I let it sit for 15 minutes while I enjoyed the soup. Some crispy rice crust pieces did form on the bottom: https://bit.ly/3PBuDt6 but not an even golden crust so I'm guessing they didn't tilt the clay pot enough while cooking. It was missing that subtle, aromatic smokiness. I had enough leftovers for another 2 meals (gotta add your own chinese sausage at home though since there was so much rice). S E R V I C E All business but polite. I was the only one there around 10 AM so my order promptly arrived in 15 minutes as promised. A M B I A N C E Divey, hole-in-the-wall with 12-14 tables and a TV playing infomercials. P A R K I N G Difficult street parking. Overall, decent Bo Zai Fan but I probably visited on an off day since it usually gets rave reviews. BUT, you seriously can't beat the value. $15 pre-tip with plenty of leftovers... when salads and sandwiches are running $15+ before all the surcharges so 3.5 stars rounded up.
